– Intelligence, analysis and strategic insight for mission-driven organisations working on solving complex, global, high-stakes societal problems that harm others — seeking to create effective impact.
How do you find where your actions can make the greatest difference in a complex system?
The problems worth solving are rarely simple.
They involve people, behaviour, systems, incentives, money, information and networks. What matters may be fragmented across different sources. Important patterns may be buried in noise. And the visible problem may only be a symptom of something deeper.
I help you make sense of what lies beneath the surface — so you can understand what is happening, identify what matters, see how you are performing – and make better decisions about how and where to act.
WHEN YOU ARE WORKING ON A CONSEQUENTIAL PROBLEM, THE QUESTION ISN’T SIMPLY: “WHAT IS HAPPENING?”
It’s also:
- What are we missing?
- What is driving the situation?
- Who and what is connected?
- Where is risk increasing?
- Where is the real leverage?
- What should we focus on first?
- What is actually working?
- How could we create greater impact?
These are the questions that turn information into something useful.
You may have more information than you know what to do with. Important data may be fragmented across systems, teams or locations. Patterns may only become visible when seemingly unrelated pieces connect. Risks may be emerging before anyone has fully recognised them. Or you haven’t yet started using your data systematically for the benefit of your work.
And when decisions involve complex systems, societal problems, human behaviour, financial incentives or hidden networks, surface-level analysis isn’t enough.
SOMETIMES THE CHALLENGE IS TO KNOW WHAT YOU COULD BE DOING MORE OR BETTER
You may have questions such as
- How can we do this better?
- Where could we have greater impact?
- What are we not seeing?
- Where is our effort actually making a difference?
- What could we be doing that we’re not?
You know you could be doing more.
You want to increase your impact. Reach more people. Understand where your efforts matter most. Find new opportunities to intervene. Strengthen what is already working. Drop what is not.
Data and intelligence can support decisions such as
- Which network should we investigate first?
- Which geographical area is becoming higher risk?
- Which type of activity is increasing?
- Which actors represent the greatest threat?
- Where is intervention most likely to have an effect?
- Why did activity suddenly increase in this location?
- Why are these events happening in this sequence?
- What motivates the actors?
- What behavioural indicators precede certain activity?
- Are our interventions actually working?
- Which interventions produce the best outcomes?
- Where are we spending resources without meaningful impact?
- What should we stop doing?
- What should we scale?
- Where should we focus our resources for the greatest possible impact?
I work with analytics, intelligence and strategic thinking to help organisations understand what is really happening, uncover patterns and risks that may otherwise remain hidden, see how they are performing and make better decisions.
Because when the problem matters, “we don’t know” is often not a good enough place to stop.
WHAT I HELP YOU AND YOUR ORGANISATION DO
I help organisations move from information → insight → intelligence → action.
My role is to help you step back from complexity and develop a clearer understanding of what you are actually dealing with and how you are performing.
I help to structure complex information to get a deeper understanding of the question in hand, identify connections and patterns, understand how they can perform and operate better and turn fragmented information into actionable intelligence.
We’ll move through:
Data → What is happening?
Intelligence → What does it mean and what matters?
Behaviour → Why are people acting this way?
Financial intelligence → Where are incentives and resources flowing?
Network analysis → Who and what is connected?
Strategy → What should we do?
AI/ML → What patterns can technology help us detect or predict?
Depending on the situation, this may involve helping you:
01 — Create a clearer picture of your situation and of the problem you solve
02 — Identify blind spots and hidden dynamics
03 — Make sense of fragmented information
04 — Understand human and behavioural dynamics
05 — Assess risks and emerging concerns
06 — Develop strategic perspective
FOR ORGANISATIONS WORKING ON PROBLEMS THAT MATTER
This can mean:
GOVERNMENT & PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS – Addressing complex societal problems, risks and systems.
NGOs & CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS – Working to protect people, communities, animals or the environment.
MISSION-DRIVEN ORGANISATIONS – Seeking to create meaningful social, environmental or economic change.
RESEARCH & POLICY ORGANISATIONS – Turning complex information and evidence into useful understanding.
This can be for you if
- You and your organization have a meaningful mission or consequential responsibility – you lead or advise an organization tackling serious societal problems — and the decisions you face affect people whose lives don’t have room for your learning curve
- You are navigating a situation where the information and knowledge does not currently feel sufficient
- You are dealing with complexity involving people, behaviour, risk or conflicting information
- You need an outside perspective capable of examining the situation
- You suspect there may be blind spots or dynamics that are not yet fully understood
- You care about getting closer to the reality of a situation rather than simply confirming existing assumptions
- You’re carrying a decision or responsibility where getting it wrong is expensive — for your mission, your people, or your organization
- The information in front of you is genuinely insufficient, contradictory, or shaped by dynamics you can’t see from inside
- You value an outside perspective that examines the situation from angles your team doesn’t have, even when that’s uncomfortable – you’d rather know the truth than feel reassured
- You’re not short of information. You’re short of clarity: conflicting assessments, siloed knowledge, and unanswered questions about what’s really happening on the ground
- You sense dynamics beneath the surface — political, behavioural, cultural — that you can see the effects of but not the shape of
- Your board, your donors, or your conscience require a decision you’ll be able to defend later, whatever the outcome turns out to be
- You want someone who challenges your thinking precisely because the stakes are too high for agreement to be a kindness
And probably not for you if you’re looking for a report that confirms what you’ve already decided — there are cheaper ways to get that.
WHAT WORKING WITH ME LOOKS LIKE
01 — We define the real question
The initial problem presented is not always the real problem. We get to what are you actually trying to understand, decide or change.
We begin by understanding the situation, the decision that needs to be made and what is actually at stake.
02 — We examine the landscape
We identify the relevant information and data, stakeholders, dynamics, assumptions, risks and areas of uncertainty and contextual factors.
03 — I find the patterns
I analyse the information to identify relationships, anomalies, trends, behavioural dynamics, risks and what the data tells us about what we are working towards. We explore patterns, connections and perspectives that may not be immediately obvious.
04 — I build the picture
Individual pieces of information become a coherent view of the situation. The objective is to move from information and complexity toward a clearer understanding of what matters.
05 — We turn insight into action
The goal isn’t simply to know more. It’s to make better decisions because you know more. The work ultimately supports clearer thinking, more informed choices and more intentional next steps.
What becomes possible when you understand the problem more clearly?
- Better prioritisation.
- Earlier recognition of emerging risks.
- More effective use of limited resources.
- Stronger strategic decisions.
- Clearer understanding of complex systems and the issues you are solving
- Greater visibility into patterns and connections.
- Better outcomes and impact.
- More confidence about where to focus next.
